D-TRUST was founded in 1998 in Berlin and is a 100% subsidiary of Bundesdruckerei (National Printing House). D-TRUST develops and markets new high-security products based on digital signature technology and is being operated within the highly secure premises of the Bundesdruckerei value printing facilities. For both companies and administrative bodies, D-TRUST offers consulting services and the whole range of PKI products and trustcentre-services. With its platform Signed Data Services, D-TRUST also operates as an Application Service Provider in the field of e-invoicing, offering not only signature and verification services, but also conversion and archiving services. The core business of Bundesdruckerei are systems solutions in the fields of identification, access control and value printing ? thus representing an ideal alliance for the conception of modern identification documents. As D-TRUST is fully integrated into the product strategy of Bundesdruckerei, D-TRUST is the single German trustcentre to provide services and products within the framework of sovereign tasks. This becomes even more important as German government only recently has announced its e-card-strategy, intending to issue all national identification documents as smart cards at least prepared for the reception of a qualified certificate. Starting in autumn, signing the biometrical data used for the new generation of German passports will be a service provided by D-TRUST. According to §15 SigG (German Signature Act), D-TRUST is an accredited trust centre. It also has, as the first trust centre in Europe, announced the qualified operating business. D-TRUST thus is able, and so far it is the only German trust centre to do so, to issue all kinds of certificates ? advanced certificates on card or as Soft-PSE, qualified certificates and certificates with voluntary provider accreditation. As the building-up of the certification authority might be chosen freely when issuing qualified certificates, D-TRUST can act flexible on the needs of its customers. As a principle, D-TRUST has defined its products, protocols and data formats according to valid national and international standards, thus aiming at interoperability and standardization. Standards comprise the standardization profile ISIS-MTT, the international standards set up by ITU (X.509), standards set up by RSA labs and ETSI standards. The aim to further propagate standardization is also underlined by active membership in TeleTrusT Deutschland e.V. and the Signaturbündnis, a common initiative by German government and industry. As we feel especially committed to our customers from the public authorities, D-TRUST of course supports the most important e-government applications. D-TRUST also provides the national Chambers of Commerce with certificates for their specific applications. Together with the Chambers, a nation-wide net of registration points has been tied. Currently D-TRUST helps setting up the trust centres of BfA (Federal Insurance Institution for Employees) and BA (Federal Employment Office).
