Signtrust is Deutsche Post AG´s certification authority (CA), accredited in accordance with the Deutsche Signaturgesetz (German signature law). Signtrust ensures that all necessary security regulations are complied with when issuing qualified certificates. Qualified signatures with provider accreditation offers users the best comprehensively tested security possible.
The certification service performs one of the trust center´s main tasks. Signtrust assigns a mandatory key pair (public and private keys) to a person´s certificate. In issuing a certificate in which the key owner´s information is stored, the trust center confirms that the data has been verified.
The signature certificate is found on our signature card (Signtrust Card). This is the cardholder´s proof of identity in the electronic world and serves to generate an electronic signature. Furthermore, the integrated encryption certificate permits secure communication with the cardholder. Optional attribute certificates can be added to the card, which can be used, for instance, to attest a particular certificate holder feature such as a professional qualification or a third-person power of representation. The Signtrust Card can be ordered via online application (www.signtrust.de
Included in Signtrust's service portfolio is the long-standing set-up and operation of accredited "virtual" CAs. As an example, the accredited CA of the Bundesnotarkammer (German Chamber of Notaries) and the Austrian e-card CA are operated by Signtrust.
Moreover, Signtrust offers services and software that allow legally-binding communication on the Internet with the help of qualified electronic signatures. Among the application areas are batch electronic bill signature and batch document time stamping for long-term paperless archiving. Deutsche Post also uses this batch signature for the B2B Document Service Online computer platform.
